Problem: what will happen to the balloon at room temp.,in cold water, and in warm water? Research:expand means to spread apart and contract means to get closer together Hypothesis: if we put the balloon in warm water, then it will start to blow up (What will happen when you place it in the cold water?) Materials: Safety goggles,Balloon,Plastic bottle,Warm water,Cold water Procedure: 1.)Stretch the opening of the balloon over the neck of the bottle. 2.)Observe the balloon at room temperature. Record observations. 3.)Place the bottle with the ballon in the warm water for about 30 seconds.
4.) Observe the ballon again and record any changes you see in the balloon. 5.)Remove the bottle and ballon from the warm water and quickly place it in the cold
water for about 30 seconds (or until it cools).
6.) Observe the ballon and record any changes you see in the ballon. Results:
Water Temperature
Prediction
Description of the Balloon
Room Temperature
nothing will happen.
same as when we put it on.
Warm
it will blow up.
blew up a little.
Cold
it will deflate.
deflated down to like when we started.
You need to use adjectives to describe what the balloon looks like! Conclusion: my hypothisis was correct. I stated that at room temp. nothing would happen, in warm water it would blow up, and in cold water it would deflate, so my hypothisis was correct You did not use the results to show what hppened that proves you are correct.
I can state a hypothesis related to the problem and procedure.
I can conduct research about concepts that are related to the topic I am investigating.
I can collect quantitative/qualitative data while conducting an experiment.
I can use the data in my results to draw a conclusion about what happened and why.
Overall, I can apply the scienctific method to solve a problem.
